Serving Australia’s capital and southeastern New South Wales, the Canberra International Airport is just 8km from the city centre. It is a modern facility that has undergone millions of dollars in upgrades in recent years.

Destination Highlights

Qatar Airways provides direct flights every day from Canberra to most other state capitals in Australia, while FlyPelican links the city with Newcastle, Dubbo and the Gold Coast. Virgin Australia and Tigerair offer domestic service to several Australian cities, Singapore Airlines has daily flights to Singapore, and Qatar Airlines goes to Doha. The airlines enable passengers to make connections to more than 170 destinations around the world.

The airport features two terminals. The Southern Concourse, built in 2010, is where Qantas has its check-in counters, departure gates and a lounge. The Western Concourse, on the other side of a large atrium, was constructed in 2013. It houses Virgin Australia’s flight facilities and a lounge. Singapore Airlines uses the international terminal, which is even newer. The glass-walled terminal has duty-free shops, a café bar, lounges, an impressive sculpture and free Wi-Fi.

There are several options for ground transportation, including Marulan Coaches and Murrays Coaches. Canberra also has a bus system, called ACTION, that links the city with the airport. The fees for an adult are $4.90 for a single fare and $9.40 for a daily ticket. With a rental car or taxi, a visitor can reach the city centre within 10 minutes. Uber drivers serving airport customers must pay a $3 fee.
