Destination Highlights

Fremantle Prison, which operated from the mid-19th century until 1991, still stands. Tourists learn the story of the facility’s role when Australia was a British penal colony. Another historic site, the 12-sided Round House, also once served as a jail. Now a museum, the 1831 building is the oldest structure in Western Australia. Visitors can find out more about Fremantle’s past at the Western Australia Maritime Museum and the WA Shipwreck Galleries.

Fremantle Markets has sold produce and other locally made goods for more than 120 years. Esplanade Park, with its grassy expanses and mature pine trees, is a great place for a picnic. It has a playground with an observation wheel. Along the shoreline, four white-sand beaches provide opportunities for swimming, surfing, parasailing, kite surfing and jet boating. The Escape Hunt Experience amusement centre challenges people to get out of locked rooms by solving puzzles. Other sites include the impressive Basilica of St Patrick, one of Australia’s five minor basilicas; and the Fremantle Arts Centre, which offers exhibits and courses. To visit that places you can try the Top Rated Hotel Fremantle Prison YHA
